November wad National Novel Writing Month. A challenge to write 50000 words in 30 days. It’s a challenge I took on hoping to complete it and well I failed. I’m not proud of it, but it’s the truth. I thought I cod find an hour or two each day to write, but as the month started it quickly became clear that I didn’t have the drive to succeed. First I couldn’t write the novel I had planned to. I tried but the words weren’t there. So a week in to November I had just over 1000 words and no story to tell. I drifted about trying different perspectives on my tail. Trying to find one that would inspire me. Finally I did., I rebooted the story as a journal told by the hero. It worked I found the words, well almost found them. I found them at my weekly escapes to Starbucks with Melissa. While sitting there drinking coffee and spending some time with Melissa the words flowed. When I tried at night, while sitting at my computer at home they didn’t. So as the month ended I found I had only wrote close to 25,000 words.
My writing wasn’t the only thing I let slide while I tried to write. One was my blog and the other is my personal programming project. I hope to put them both right in December. As of today, I’m going to blog everyday. Not just my Picture of the Day, a real post. Something longer. Something interesting. To help motivate me I’ve once again joined Holidailies. I’m still working out how I’ll fit in all this extra blogging, but I’m confident I can do it. As for my programming project, it’s something I’ve been working on now for over a year in its current form. Though at its heart it’s something I’ve been working on for much longer than that. I’m not ready to talk about it, but I hope to use one of my December posts to introduce it to the world.
Only time will tell if I’m successful with these new goals, already I’m falling a little short of what I envisioned for this post, but December is a long month I hope by the end of it to be into the swing of real blog writing again. So stay tuned.
